Description

The Student/Instructor Ratio is 4:1. There are only 8 spots per tour available, and they are on a first come first served basis. Our tours are packed with the goal to increase each pilot’s recognition of conditions and flying weather, their mechanical skills wherever they may be at in their progression and an emphasis on risk management while flying CrossCountry. Basically, like all of Eagle’s international tours, just show up at the airport with your gear and an adventurous spirit and we’ll help you have the best trip possible.

Brazil-paragliding-eagleThe tours will take place at several sites, all of which are a short drive from the high end accommodations at the Swan Hotel in Novo Hamburgo and provide multiple options for varying conditions and wind directions. Every tour participant gets their own single room. The hotel was quite “high end”, even before a very recent remodel, complete with an in-house restaurant serving safe and delicious meals. Breakfast is included and although dinner is fantastic at the Swan, dinners are normally a group affair on the way home from a long day of flying.

Our first group will arrive at the airport in (POA) on September 14th (morning to early afternoon arrival) to be picked up by our good friend and experienced tour driver, Ederson in a Sprinter Van. He will transport you directly to the Swan Hotel to rest up, so we can do a full orientation that evening at dinner to be ready to head out for a (somewhat) early start (usually around 9-10 am).

Our (7) days of flying will primarily be at Sapiranga, a south and west facing site around 30-40 mins from the hotel. It traditionally has good mid-day XC potential and reliable glass off conditions toward the evenings. The XC area most days will be a square with close to 40k on all sides. It’s also possible for more experienced groups to go “over the back” into interesting terrain.

brazil-eagle-launchOn North days, we will likely go to Ninho das Aguias, which is a very scenic river valley located approximately an hour from the hotel. Close to this site, there is a cool farm to get some traditional meat cooked up for us on the way back that most groups really enjoy.

On windy days, we can escape to Encantado, a south facing site about 2.5 hours from the hotel. Good for soaring and very scenic, it can also work for longer downwind cross country, for “higher intermediate to advanced” pilots.

After 5+ good thermal days, we usually propose a “beach-fly” day if the wind allows, so that tour pilots get to see the coast, eat fresh fish, and generally have a day to practice skills like efficient use of speedbar and to work on improving each pilot’s mechanical skills.

On all flying days, we will be back at the hotel early enough for a flight debrief, or if decided, learning from our last flight can be done over coffee or tea at breakfast the following morning. If that happens, it’s because pilots had long flights, which makes us all happy!

This first tour will end with an airport transfer ride on the 22nd, at which time the 2nd arriving group will also be picked up. It’s around 45 mins each way, and we will do multiple airport shuttle trips to the hotel on arrival to accommodate everyone’s travel schedule, which means minimal wait times at the airport. US citizens will need a visa for Brazil, and a passport with at least 6 months remaining before expiration when entering. We will help guide you on this process. Be sure to reach out to us about the specific airline flight arrival and departure times so they meet our criteria before you book a flight.
